Vanara Sylvari Zora Kitsune Illithid
Vanara
The Vanara were ape-like humanoids that lived in lush, dense forests. Their bodies are covered with light fur, ranging from white through light blue to brown and black. Chestnut, ivory, and even golden coats are common. Despite their fur, vanaras can grow lengthy hair on their head just as humans can, and both male and female vanaras take pains to wear elaborate hairstyles for important social functions. The hair on a vanara’s head matches the color of its fur. Their faces are distinctly monkeylike, with protruding muzzles, furred cheeks, and wide, lipless mouths. They have long prehensile tails, long fingers and toes, and large ears. They have handlike feet that are capable of well-articulated movements. Their arms, legs, and torsos are proportioned like those of humans.
Vanaras are often viewed with amusement or even exasperation by members of other races, who find their personalities childish and irritating. They are curious in the extreme, frequently badgering people with questions (sometimes very personal questions), picking small items up to examine them, opening doors to see where they lead, and generally exploring places where the human sense of propriety and order would demand they not go. They tend to be bluntly honest, never couching a negative opinion in gentle terms or hiding their true feelings about anything. At the same time they are incredibly loyal, quite brave when the situation requires it, and genuinely kind. |
Vanaras' extinction was a slow and gradual process. They were super resistant to merging their villages with other species and thus found themselves in the middle of border wars, their land caught in the middle of kingdom territories. Not to mention, their curiosity often got themselves into too much trouble. Ultimately, the vanaras were nearly wiped out when the high elves of Highend pushed them out. They took refuge in Odonata for many years but were at constant odds with the kingdom's rulers. They left a huge impact on Odonata's culture before dwindling away. The emerging of werewolves is blamed for the decline seen in the remaining vanara scarred around Askeron.

Sylvari
Sylvari are botanical humanoids with tilted eyes and pointed ear tips; most display plantlike features such as hard wood for bone structure, have foliage and petals for hair, and bark acting as flesh. They glow during the night. Golden sap moves through their veins instead of blood and pollen falls off of them as they move. They are much more slender than the average human and about a head shorter. While sylvari can seemingly absorb sunlight and become rejuvenated, they still must eat and drink to survive.
Sylvari emerge fully formed from golden fruit pods which grow on a special type of tree known as a Pale Tree. Pale Trees were once found on Uploria, Zethea, Hideaway and Algar. Sylvari gender is selected by the Pale Tree prior to each individual's emergence, and is distinguished by the same general features as human genders, although they lack reproductive capabilities. It is unknown to outsiders if the sylvari die of old age, as they are known to have died only through violence, poison or disease and do not appear to age. |
When a sylvari is harmed, tendrils form over the wound and their bark expands to recover the area, leaving no scar. They heal at the same general rate as humans. All sylvari have luminescent cells in their skin, causing them to glow in the dark.
Sylvari are usually honest, direct and focused, taking most things at face value. Emotions and tact, in particular, are difficult for them to grasp, so often a sylvari will state out loud something which would normally be politely avoided by other races. Death too is not fully understood but viewed as something to be embraced and, as with many things in a sylvari's life, is viewed with a great degree of curiosity. These views serve to form an acceptance of and fascination with death that other races may find disturbing. Romance is practiced among the sylvari, disregarding gender between those involved. To a sylvari, love is spiritual and eternal, regardless of physical form and contact, and sexuality is simply a natural part of life. So long as it is entered into with good will and joy, the gender doesn't make a difference.
Sylvari's extinction came almost as fast and as sudden as they were born. Because they can only exist and come to be due to a Pale Tree, the simple destruction of such trees robbed the sylvari of life. All Pale Trees have disappeared from Algar, Zethea and Uploria due to the intention of hateful individuals. There is only two Pale Trees known to exist in The Kingdom of Hideaway and while they are protected, the trees seem to produce sylvari very infrequently. They say the remaining Pale Trees are weak and dying.
Estimated 200 sylvari still alive today.

Zora
The Zora are a race of aquatic priscine humanoids. Most Zoras do not wear clothing and they are generally covered in silver scales, which give them a pale blue sheen from a distance. They have manta ray shaped heads and fins on each arm and leg. Their feet and hands are webbed. Zora lack ears in the traditional sense, but do have pronounced noses. They have gills on their abdomen, allowing them to breathe underwater. They live underwater and rarely claim land, though that doesn't mean they can't freely walk on ground. Zoras are powerful swimmers, some even say more so than mermaids. Their fins even capable of being used as a weapon thanks to their sharp edges.
Zoras lay eggs to reproduce. Zora eggs need to be kept in cold, clean, fresh water to develop healthily. |
Newborn Zoras are tadpole-like with a circular body and a long, skinny tail ending in a fluke. Zora live in both fresh water and salt water but can only lay their eggs in fresh water. There is no distinguishing feature that separates males/females, infact Zoras are both male and female. They are all hermaphrodites.
Zoras decline in population has been a bit of a mystery. Their constant conflict with mermaids over territory has played its part but many are now starting to believe the rapid decline is due to human fishermen and pirates. Zora are on a strictly fish diet and humans have viewed them as a threat to their own food source. For that reason, fishermen and pirates have been known to hunt down zora.
Estimated 1,000 zora still alive today.
