The Kingdom of Horus is made up of primarily farmland. It is an extremely productive region and one of the leaders in trade. Though hardly the stuff of warriors, Horus' main weapon is their food production, alongside their cavalry and horse training. With tons of grassland, rolling hills, and small forests, Horus holds up a very simple, country lifestyle. Most people from Horus are easy going, preferring quiet, big open spaces. It is a self sufficient kingdom made up of humbled, strong willed individuals.

Before the 14th century The Horus Kingdom only consisted of the plains of Vale and the pastures of Hogpen. The entire east coast was part of The Kingdom of Delgaran, from the swamps to the north of Hue River. The entire western half from the hills and mountains to the sea was a territory known as Vaiden, which belonged to The Kingdom of Odonata. The island was split for three.
|
In 1347, when the kingdom came under the ruling of King Fredrick and Queen Dominique, the once small and insignificant kingdom began stirring up a pot of bigger dreams. Even though Vaiden was a territory belonging to Odonata it was not under sovereignty with the rest of the kingdom. Governing officials from Odonata barely kept tabs on the land, which was overrun with viera, a species Odonata wasn't familiar with and had difficulty spreading their beliefs to. The viera resisted most attempts Odonata officials made to teach them their religion and thus struggled to build an empire. King Fredrick of Horus was fixated on Vaiden and viewed the land to be very promising.
In 1379 King Fredrick made an offer and Odonata pleasantly agreed to sell the territory for quite cheap. It was as easy as that. The viera took kindly to King Fredrick, for his soft and gentle demeanor. He was an exceptionally tolerant king and embraced the viera and their customs without quarrel. It took some time for the people of The Horus Kingdom to equally accept the viera community but with the king's example the rest soon followed.
King Fredrick's death came almost a decade later, in the year 1387, but before his death he expressed his interests in Delgaran's eastern claim to the island.

King Fredrick's death came almost a decade later, in the year 1387, but before his death he expressed his interests in Delgaran's eastern claim to the island.
Son of King Frederick, Frederick II, took to the throne immediately following his father's death. He was an ambitious king but it was his wife, Queen Samara, who is remembered as the backbone of their time on the throne.
In 1390 King Frederick II began the first attempts to conquer the east coast. Buying the land was not an option, as Delgaran was ruled by dark elves who held on tightly to everything that was theirs and in this case, rightfully so. |
Instead Horus began by invading near the south of the Hue River, in a bold move that declared war on Delgaran without warning. It was Queen Samara who rallied the citizens to think positively of this decision. Unfortunately, Delgaran knew the ins and outs of the swamps and easily defended the region in what is referred to as the Battle of Murphy.
After pulling troops back in 1392 King Frederick made a second attempt, this time attacking at the north of Hue River where many consider the war truly began. Today it is referred to as The War On Trade, which lasted from 1392 to 1450. It was given this title due to the fact that The Hue River was a huge trade route for all three kingdoms: Horus, Delgaran, and Algar. Of course, Algar was not a part of the war... initially.
In 1410 King Frederick II tragically died out in battle at what is now called the city of Northport. Queen Samara continued to be an advocate for the war until her passing in 1442.

Algar feared that if Horus conquered the land they would fight to have entire control over the river lock chambers, potentially blocking their ships' access and controlling Algar's trades. In 1411 The Kingdom of Algar sent troops to the swamps to defend the river lock.
But in 1414 The Kingdom of Horus was at war with yet another enemy, one that directly threatened the health and well being of their people. King Harold's wife, Queen Claudia, was infected with the lycan disease. The lycan disease had been a minor incident in Horus up until the 14th century, where it began spreading like wildfire across the island. King Harold was forced to lock his wife in the chambers, where she lived by scraps like a ravage dog for almost a year. During that time King Harold began enforcing strict "kill on sight" laws for werewolves. Still, the disease was spreading.
In 1415 Queen Claudia was killed in the streets as an example and warning to all werewolves. King Harold performed the brutal killing as a way to declare his unwavering commitment for wiping out the disease.
In 1439, with The War On Trade still continuing, King Harold made an agreement with The Kingdom of Algar, promising to give full control of the river lock at the south of the Hue River to Algar, with the north river lock in Horus' full control. Immediately after, Algar and Horus defeated The Kingdom of Delgaran in what is now referred to as The Battle of South Hue, with Horus gaining the land.
A few months later King Harold died of a heart attack.

With King Frederick II's unexpected death and Queen Samara stepping down from the throne, it was their son, Harold, who took the position to rule and did so proudly in the middle of the war. In the same year, 1410, King Harold pushed for a second attempt at the swamps, even with the north battle still continuing. It was this that brought in The Kingdom of Algar. Algar and Delgaran shared ownership of the mouth of the river in the south, more specifically a water transport lock chamber that closes off the river from the ocean.
|
With some land now conquered there was no turning back. The Battle of North Hue continued for another decade under the ruling of King Harold II. Unfortunately, Delgaran was then experiencing its own Civil War, much greater than even the lycan outbreak of Horus.
In 1450 Delgaran surrendered, pulling its troops back to focus its attention elsewhere. The War On Trade was a victory for Horus, the kingdom's borders spreading over the entire island that is now present day Horus. |
With Horus' booming food production and trading ports it made the kingdom one of the leaders in commerce. King Harold II was praised for the kingdom's following success but many people today pay tribute to King Frederick for having the dream that set in motion the expansion of the kingdom.

The House of Winship
The most recent king, King Harold VIII, was one of the most adored Kings of Horus to date. According to polls he follows slightly behind King Fredrick in popularity. He was naturally loveable, friendly and boisterous. Sadly, his life, as well as the lives of all heirs to the thrown, were taken during a war with Agathora.
1607-1608: Horus' shores had "accidentally" become Agathora's target practice when testing their ship catapults and the dispute erupted into something much greater, with King Harold VIII making bold statements towards Agathora's beliefs and their general treatment of women. Agathora showed no mercy during their anger and invaded the castle, ending the abrupt Ruthless War.
1608: Following King Harold VIII's death, as well as Queen Laura Dee's and many close relatives, a man named Brevis Haze took claim to the thrown. Brevis Haze is of no blood relation to the Winship family but was a simple aid to the king. The large majority of Horus citizens felt Brevis did not deserve or have any right to the thrown. Most, even today, refuse to acknowledge him as such and will make statements such as "we have no king." It's not surprising that overall Brevis is a joke of a ruler. He has yet to prove himself to be of any worth, which leads at least half of the kingdoms in Askeron to overlook him.
King Brevis, determined to hold on to his thrown and to make his ruling count, adopted a son to be his heir. The people of Horus have yet to set any expectation on the adopted son, known as Prince Hatam.

Laws and Beliefs
Horse Lords
Horus is known not only for its farming but for its cavalry and horse training, thus bringing upon the nickname of horse lords to the people of Horus. The picture on the left is that of the Horus flag, showcasing the head of a white horse on a green backdrop. The colors white and green are proudly worn across the country, signifying pride and loyalty to the kingdom. Horus is not known to breed warriors but instead farmers. As far as military power, Horus is considered weak and vulnerable. Still, its people can bring great surprises. The country values hard work, perseverance, the ability to cope with adversity as well as the ability to live independently and self maintained. Military Grade: D+ |
Horus is decently tolerant as a whole, in terms of gender and species. Aside from werewolves and goblins there are no laws that actively discriminate. That isn't to say individuals among the communities aren't discriminatory. Horus has been known to look down on intense magic, such as that of wizards/witches, the elves, angels, demons, and fairies. It is common to find people who view magic as unnecessary and far too destructive, especially to farmland.
Werewolf Kill On Sight Law (Claudia Act)
All of Horus holds up a strict Kill On Sight law for werewolves, forcing their abundant population to live in hiding. However, Horus houses one of the largest populations of werewolves in Askeron, with the disease growing rapidly with the aid of the human population.
Proof that the individual was a werewolf is often times necessary but in many places a verbal claim is enough to get off scot-free.
Goblin Slave Trade
Goblins are locked in the slave trade in Horus, where 60% of goblins in Horus are slaves.
It should be noted the difference between slaves and servants is that servants get paid and can quit employment.
Free goblins found in Horus have likely been freed by their owner from sympathy, friendship or good behavior. Of course, some goblins are lucky enough to be born free due to free parents. Free goblins are rewarded paperwork which proves their freedom ("freedom papers"). If these papers are lost or stolen it could land the goblin back into slavery.
Goblin slaves likely wear something to represent their owner and ownership. This may range from a choke collar, tattoo, ear tag, etc.
Dragon Laws
It is illegal to actively seek out and kill a dragon. The exception is made when it is done as defense. This requires proof of harm, trauma or property damage. Dragons will, sometimes in frequency, attack farmland, livestock and fishing boats or trade ships. Farmers and fishermen are accustomed to defending their goods, though it more often results in injuring or scaring off the dragon rather than killing.
If a dragon is killed it is illegal to sell any portion of its body. By law a dead dragon's body is to be given to a draconologist of that region for research. A draconologist of Horus can then dispose of the body however they see fit, so long as it is not sold or given out to the community. This may mean burning the body, dropping it in the ocean, burying, housing it in a basement, etc.
It is not illegal to kill wyvern for any reason. However, a dead wyvern body is also illegal to sell. One can surrender the body to a draconologist but it is not mandatory to do so. Many are dumped into the ocean yearly.
Black Market
The black market in Horus is surprisingly large. It is said where there are dwarfs in Horus there is a black market. That may be an incorrect stereotype but dwarfs are known to be the top sellers in dragon meat, dragon teeth jewelry, dragon skin armor/cloaks, etc, all of which are illegal to sell. Several illegal spices, drugs, and more are sold all over Horus in secret black markets. Vampire teeth jewelry, fairy dust, unicorn horns, mermaid scales, all obviously illegal in Horus, are also found among the black markets. The largest black market trades are found in Northport and Southport, with Vale, Hogpen and Fort Herupa following.
Werewolf fur is not illegal to sell in Horus.

Geological Features & The Wild
There are several different dirt/gravel roads that connect each town/city, weaving into the wilderness of Horus that separates its communities. It is highly advised to stay on the path as the safest way of travel. Between towns/cities are the most likely place to discover giants and gnomes, as well as many male viera or small, traditional viera communities.
What are the animals used for transportation?
The most common mounts for transportation in Horus are horses, followed by chocobos, donkeys, mules, ox and direboars (most often seen in Hogpen).
What kind of livestock or pets do people have?
Considering Horus is the farm capitol of the world its livestock is abundant, involving cattle, horses, chocobos, ox, sheep, goats, pigs/hogs, direboars, chickens/roosters, ducks, alpacas, llamas, bantengs, donkeys, mules, cats, dogs and rabbits or jackalopes.
Other typical house pets not already named include various birds and rodents.
What kind of wild animals live in Horus?
The wildlife found in the small forests and woods of Horus is mostly that of skunks, deer, squirrels, wolves, werewolves, foxes, jackalopes, cockatrice, bears, birds, reptiles and the rare unicorns.
In the grasslands are bison, pronghorns, horses, seldom unicorns, wolves, coyotes, weasels, birds (chocobos included), badgers, and rodents.
Hydra, dragons, and wyvern are particularly a threat and especially so around the coast and mountains.
1. Mount Mir Darul
The mountain range to the northwest houses the majority of the dragon population found in Horus. Visitors of the mountain are given persistent warnings along the trail that leads to it, though it is not necessarily forbidden grounds. For the most part the mountains are left alone to the dragons and wyvern.
2. Emerald Run & Emerald Forest
Emerald Run is a large river that flows from the ocean through what is called Emerald Forest, which lingers near the mountains. Emerald run is covered in cockatrice and wild turkeys, but overall is not considered severely dangerous. It's biggest danger may be the possible werewolf packs that hide away there. Along the river is where many individuals go for camping vacations or hunting trips, likely targeting the werewolves.
3. Quibell River
The Quibell River is the longest river in Horus, passing through the swamps all the way to the capitol, Vale. It is primarily used for travel, specifically any urgent messages that are coming or going straight from the castle to other countries across the ocean.
4. Murphy Swamp
Murphy Swamp is located beside the Hue River's south entrance. It is a clear home to many dragons but also some argonians, or perhaps daring humans and other humanoid species. Murphy Swamp is not considered a functional town, the few who reside there are likely runaways, travelers, fugitives, etc. The land is dangerous and difficult to navigate.
5. Hinder Forest
Hinder Forest (which isn't indicated on the map) is the forests that blocks Nekhen from the Hue River. It goes along the coast of the river and creates a good barrier. There is a road that travels from Nekhen through the forest to the river, where a couple houses or ports are found on the coast, but it is otherwise dangerous to enter. The forest is home to dragons, bears, werewolves and more. It is beautiful within but still unthinkable to simply wander around.

The Towns and Cities of Horus
Vale
Vale (pictured above) is the kingdom's capitol, the first city built in Horus, and the first 'Ale City' to exist.
The Ale Cities are six cities built by the hands of human explorers as they began to make the first land ownership claims across Askeron. They are as follows: Vale, Gale, Zale, Yale, Kale, and Nale. These cities represent the first signs of human society.
Naturally, as the capitol, Vale houses the King's castle smack dab in the middle, surrounded by farm land enclosed with stone rock fences. These rock fences are a signature aesthetic of Vale. The roads are simple dirt paths that travel through the outstretched homes set apart by fields and grazing animals. Every road entrance into Vale has a guard(s) or watchman.

The population of Vale is moderately mixed.
Predominately: Human Common: Viera, Centaur, Wood Elves and Werewolves Occasional: Dwarfs, Vampires, Khajiit and Goblins Uncommon: High Elves, Dark Elves, Wizards/Witches, Argonians, Giants and Gnomes Rare: Creans, Fairies, Mermaids, Angels, Demons, Golems and Grey Elves |
Education:
Crime Rate: Moderately Low
- Vale is dominated by a few mixed schools that accommodate all species except any human who carries the lycan disease (werewolves) and goblins. Goblins, even if free, are not allowed to attend public mixed school. There are no schools for goblins at this time. However, a couple of these mixed schools offer programs specifically for giants, to aid in their slow learning ability.
- Private human-only schools are also available in Vale, perhaps the best school in all of Horus.
- There are viera-only schools available, though small and slightly less funded.
- There are no schools in Vale which offer any magic teachings whatsoever. Such must be done by private tutors.
Crime Rate: Moderately Low
Hogpen
Hogpen is the second oldest region of Horus. It's name derives from the abundant pig/hog production that the city is known for. The majority of the land, if not farmed for crops, is used for pig farming. Be it domestic pigs or wild boars and hogs, Hogpen farms it for food and skin and companion pets. Hogpen pork has been made famous all across Askeron.
It's dirt and rock roads stretch over long plains from home to home. There is a generalized cluster of shops at the center of Hogpen where many people reference when saying "I'm going into town," even though they too live in town. Entrances to "the town" are guarded very loosely and nonchalant.

Burrowmill
Burrowmill, the original home to viera, was further cultivated and expanded by the humans when Vaiden was bought by The Kingdom of Horus. Everything about Burrowmill is bliss, full of flower patches and rolling, grassy hills. It is quaint and lively, deeply accustomed to viera culture, home to many crop farms and gardens. A signature of the land is its windmills which sit atop hills, hundreds of them spaced out all over town, pumping water to the city and milling grain. Many places have windmills but Burrowmill is jam packed with them. Security and guardsmen are low in demand for the town's peaceful nature.
The population of Burrowmill is moderately mixed. Predominately: Human and Viera Common: Centaur, Khajiit and Werewolves Occasional: Wood Elves, High Elves, Vampires and Goblins Uncommon: Dwarfs, Dark Elves, Wizards/Witches, Giants and Gnomes Rare: Argonians, Creans, Fairies, Mermaids, Angels, Demons, Golems and Grey Elves |

Fort Herupa
![Picture](/uploads/4/7/9/5/47958041/6379584.jpg?434)
The famous port built by King Fredrick immediately following the purchase of Vaiden. Fort Herupa is popular in its fishery production and trade, welcoming many to its border. It is the most immediate and interactive region of Horus with other countries, a hot spot for boating travelers all over the world. There are no gates or blockades or guards scanning those who enter, making it vulnerable. The kingdom believes in keeping Fort Herupa open to foreigners considering it is that which makes it so efficient. The town is small but busy. It is known for experiencing extensive variations of rainfall all year round.
The population of Fort Herupa is moderately mixed.
Predominately: Human Common: Viera, Centaur, Vampires and Werewolves Occasional: Dwarfs, Wood Elves, Dark Elves and Goblins Uncommon: High Elves, Wizards/Witches, Mermaids, Argonians, Giants and Gnomes Rare: Creans, Fairiese, Golems, Angels, Demons, and Grey Elves |

Nekhen
Nekhen is the small town that developed during The South Hue and The North Hue Battles. It was a battle station or military base between the two, centering around a large watchtower. The watchtower is now made famous, called The Standing Spear. After the battles ended and the land was claimed, the land around The Spear expanded and grew into a reasonable living space and further into a well respected farming community. The Spear remains in use today, serving as the eyes towards the Hue River coast or also known as Horus' border. The town is well welcoming and sits beside the small forest trek towards the river. It is perhaps not as well known for its connection to the river as Northport or Southport but it does contain a plethora of trade routes. The dirt or gravel road entrances into the town are loosely guarded.

Northport
Northport, a city originally apart of Delgaran, it controls the north entrance of the Hue River. The city has since grown under the Horus Kingdom, it's town busy and constantly moving. There is a darker tone felt within, houses and shops close together along stone roads, everything of neutral, bland colors. Northport is known for its spices and herbs, merchants found all over, especially along the river. The security along the river, also the border, is likely the highest in all of Horus, up to par with the castle security. Northport is protective of all goods going in and out, its guards keeping a watchful eye on merchants. However, the black market still exists and functions well in Northport. The black market in Northport is one of the largest in all of Horus and possibly Askeron.

Southport
Southport, a city originally apart of Delgaran, it controls the south entrance of the Hue River. Aside from the Hue River, Southport is full of tiny little streams that pass in and around town, trickling through the city. Plants and trees nicely accent the brightness of the buildings. Though it is neighbor to swamps and filthy wetlands, the center of Southport is full of life. Further west the city grows more spaced out and dull, with old wooden cabins housing the poorer folk, the area referred to as "the slums." Southport is known for its seafood and hot peppers, with merchants everywhere. The security along the river, also the border, is tight, though perhaps a little less so than in the northern part of the river, seeing how the relationship and agreement with Algar is far stronger than it is with Delgaran. However, the black market still exists and functions well in Southport. The black market in Southport is the second largest in all of Horus and ranking high in Askeron.
