Demons
From Whence They Came
Demons come from a world that is separate from Askeron, in a completely different realm often mistakenly referred to as The Underworld, The Slip, Nexus, or The Nether. It's real name, the name demons use when referencing their homeland, is Demiticus. Demiticus is darker, hotter, and harsher than Askeron. Its' inhabitants are powerful, god-like monstrosities that live in a well structured hierarchy. Demiticus is made up of primarily volcanic lava, iron and stone. It is mountainous, with many deep, rocky valleys and caves. There is little water, no ocean, just small lakes and streams/creeks. It is humid, hot and never cold. |
The Demon King
Demiticus is ruled by The Demon King, an archdemon considered to be all powerful. He's a malevolent king, full of hatred and narcissism.
The King functions similarly to a queen bee, its workers serving to bring in resources and power. Every living being on Demiiticus can be thought of as a weapon and each time an individual kills, the soul of the victim is consumed by The King. A soul gives The King energy, strength and ultimately granting him an extended life. He can continue to live on, nearly immortal, so long as he is fed the souls of the murdered.
The victims, once killed by a demon, fuel The King. Don't mistake this as any real answers for the questions of an afterlife. There is no way of knowing if those who's souls are lost to The King are still somewhere else, in "Hell" or "Heaven", or if Demiticus is really Hell itself, or if the victims are reborn as demons themselves, if they are simply nonexistent, if a soul really is anything attainable at all, nothing concrete can really be understood here. Call it a soul, call it magic, all that is known is that those who fall victim to a demon's wrath allow for The Demon King to live on.
These days The King remains healthy, strong and vigilant. They say The King is nearly 5,000 years old, though others say it's closer to 2,000, some claim 10,000 but no matter the age the only way The King lives is if his hive kills. And his hive does kill. Those raised on Demiticus are often taught of cruelty and torment as if they are a food source.

The Nature of Demons
The majority of demons born on Demiticus share the same symptoms of a psychopath. While 1% of those born on Askeron are psychopaths, a grand total of 93% of demons on Demiticus can be characterized as a psychopath. This means the majority of the population lacks empathy, remorse, and the ability to stand in someone else's shoes and comprehend how they might feel. They exhibit amorality—an absence of, indifference towards, or disregard for moral beliefs. They can fake all of this well if needed, being raised to think manipulatively.
Most of this comes in layers, some may feel slight remorse every now and then but are ultimately unphased. They may pass moral judgement from time to time but are otherwise convinced that there is no point in questioning the world or their king.
There is a constant back and forth on whether or not all of this is a result of genetics or upbringing. Those born on Demicitus experience a tortured upbringing of enslavement and violence. You might be worried about the 7% of those not exhibiting psychopathic tendencies and the truth is, they suffer, crave escapism and in the cases of those who challenge The King, their life is taken painfully.

Hierarchy
Demiticus functions around social hierarchy. The subspecies of demons are ranked, mainly based on strength, resilience and cruelty. The King, built with malicious intent, serves only chaos. Archdemons are at the top of the food chain, ruling over their own hordes beneath The Demon King. Minotaurs serve as high ranking officials, committed to forces of violence and tactic. Morphids are somewhere in the middle, some respected in their own right while others are mere servants to an Archdemon. Darma are viewed as a science experiment, in some cases having gone terribly right and others terribly wrong. They are pushed hard by their horde leader, built up to be strong, and yet are commonly mocked as unnatural. Demonic Demons are your average populace, your middle to lower class citizens or servants. At the very bottom of the barrel lies the Imps.

History
About 100 years ago Demiticus and Askeron were connected by a portal, a glyph that came from the hands of wizards and witches delving into summoning magic while in The Fade.
Oddly enough, The King did not expect a portal to Askeron to be handed to him. Normally it was The King who created and opened portals into other worlds but this one was created by the wizards and witches of Askeron, practically handing over their death certificates. The King sent in hoards of warriors, led by a group of Archdemons, well trained and prepared to do their job of wiping out all they crossed paths with... but something else happened that was unexpected. The portals normally closed quickly and this one didn't. While no Askeron inhabitants were entering into Demiticus, some Demons who weren't authorized by The King were escaping to Askeron, many seeking to flee from The King's control. Most of these Demons were low ranking families, wanting to break away.
Since then Demons have carved their place in Askeron, many of which who remain loyal to their King and continue to break away at Askeron with the hopes that it one day is destroyed. It is not uncommon for it to take centuries to completely wipe out a world so patience is key... and yet many Angels who now reside in Askeron do their duty of preventing them from succeeding. And then there are the brave demons who fled, taking their chance to make a new life. These demons have slowly and nervously been acclimated into society, some accepted and others fearfully rejected.

Legends or Archdemons
Legends or archdemons are the highest ranking of all demon forms. There are an estimated 8-12 archdemons that exist currently. They are all completely unique in appearance. Some possess formal and informal forms but perhaps not all. They all have horns of some kind, varying in number, size, shape, and location on their head. Their eyes are either black, grey, blue, purple, red, yellow or orange. Their skin color ranges from all human pigments plus red and grey tones. They may or may not have a tail, with the size and appearance being just about anything. They also may or may not have bat-like wings. Legends are really only distinguished from other demons through their abilities.

Shadow Manipulation
- The ability to be unseen in darkness no matter what (works like invisibility but only applicable in the shadows).
- The ability to create a wave of shadow that pulls another being off of their feet.
2. Elemental Magic
Of all demonic demons, 25% of them are born with elemental magic. There are only four types of elemental demonic demons: fire, ice, water and ground. Elemental demonic demons are only capable of one single elemental ability:
Fire Embodiment
Of the 25% elemental demonics, 80% are fire users.
- Allows the user's body to transform into fire, remaining in the shape of their figure.
- This form makes physical contact with their body dangerous for others. However, they can concentrate to constantly pull the fire against themselves, inward, so that nothing around them catches fire.
- How strong the user is in this ability will determine how long they can remain in this state, though the maximum amount of time is ten minutes.
- While this ability grants the user an exceptional amount of safety in many cases, it also poses a potential hazard when used in the presence of fire mages (fairies and wizards/witches) who could easily use their ability of Fire Manipulation to take control of the user's body, easily ripping them apart and causing death.
Of the 25% elemental demonics, 10% are ice users.
- Allows the user's body to transform into a frozen ice form, their body remaining in the shape of their figure.
- This form grants the user sharp edges and a strong surface that can take hits from sharp objects in a way her skin could not.
Of the 25% elemental demonics, 5% are water users.
- Allows the user’s body to transform into liquid water, their body remaining in the shape of their figure.
- This form would allow regular weapons and most objects to pass through them, unharmed, with a possible tickle.
- How strong the user is in this ability will determine how long they can remain in this state, though the maximum amount of time is ten minutes.
- While this ability grants the user an exceptional amount of safety in many cases, it also poses a potential hazard when used in the presence of water mages (fairies and wizards/witches) who could easily use their ability of Water Manipulation to take control of the user’s body, easily ripping them apart and causing death.
Of the 25% elemental demonics, 5% are ground users.
- Allows the user's body to transform into solid rock, their body remaining in the shape of their figure.
- This form grants the user strength like no other, able to take hits with ease.
Legends/Archdemons
A single archdemon may possess two of the four possibilities listed below:
A single archdemon may possess two of the four possibilities listed below:
- Some (but not all) legends may be born with two forms, granting them the above ability Morph/Grow.
- Some (but not all) legends may be born with elemental magic, granting them one of the above abilities: Fire Embodiment, Ice Form, Water Mimicry, or Rock Form.
- Some (but not all) legends may be born with dark magic, granting them the above ability Shadow Manipulation.
- Some (but not all) legends may be born with the above ability Teleport.
In addition, each archdemon is born with a unique ability, one from the list below:
Primary Abilities
Possession
Primary Abilities
Possession
- The ability to inhibit the body of another by taking control of their motor functions and senses.
- Speech may or may not be accessible, depending on how tight a grip the archdemon has on the target.
- Target may be unconscious or conscious when user takes control. If target is conscious they merely become helpless inside their body.
- User must be within line of sight to possess its victim but may travel great distances in the target's body.
- The user's body becomes frozen where it is left, appearing as if its in a trance. This leaves the archdemon's body vulnerable and if tampered with can force the archdemon to release the victim to return to its body.
- If the user's body is killed before it can return, the archdemon will die and the victim will be released.
- The ability to stretch or contracts one's body, to a limit.
- Assuming and maintaining these shapes used to require extreme effort.
- Stretching to extremes during a short span of time causes the user to suffer intense pain and the temporary loss of natural elastic resiliency
- The ability to project sexual attraction, affection, or attachment on to a target, manipulating the way they may feel towards the user.
- This does not necessarily mean the user uses mind control, they cannot force a target to act a certain way, they can only alter their emotions in perception of the user.
- User can alter their appearance in the mind of a target based on their fears.
- Can sense the fears of a target through extreme concentration and energy.
- They do not legitimately change shape or appearance, only project an illusion of themselves as the feared object or idea, often used as a distraction or to generate sheer panic. Only a single target sees this illusion.
- The ability to enter and manipulate the dreams of others.
- This includes modifying, suppressing, fabricating, influencing, manifesting, sensing, and observing dreams as well as nightmares. Targets, obviously, must be asleep and dreaming.
- User cannot physically hurt the target in the real world through their dreams, can only manipulate, scare or influence the target through images and ideas placed in their dreams.
- Users have a limited amount of time while their target is asleep.
- Must be within line of sight of the target.
- Can only target one individual at a time. During this the user's body slips into a trance-like state, making them vulnerable.
- The ability to transfer pain the user experiences onto a target.
- This relieves the user of all pain and puts whatever kind of pain they were feeling onto the target. Physical injuries are not transferred but the pain felt from them are.
- Must have physical contact with the target in order for pain to be transferred.
- Vexation means annoyance - this ability is coupled with an innate "curse" where the user experiences pain the longer they go without killing a living being, be it animal or humanoid. The only way to relieve this pain is to kill.
- The less intelligent the kill is the less pain it will relieve, ie: killing a bird may only relieve some pain dependent on how much pain is being felt by the user, whereas killing a humanoid will almost always cure all or a large portion of pain being felt by the user..
- The ability to manipulate time in the sense of accelerating, slowing or stopping.
- Accelerating gives off a noticeable feeling of enhanced speed and reflexes, but provides less time to think actions through, leaving many to act more impulsively.
- Slowing gives off a noticeable feeling of slower speed and reflexes, but provides more time to think actions through, only once you begin an action it is likely difficult to change it.
- Stopping time can be done in two very distinct ways. The first is it freezes all beings' mentally as well as physically, they don't notice it and are simply held there, practically unconscious, while the user can go about his or her business. The other for more stopping time is to only stop beings physically so that the user can talk or act and they can bear witness, only unable to move.
- All time manipulation magic takes extreme concentration and energy. These abilities may wear out the user if pushed too much.
- The user can only hold the act of accelerating, slowing or stopping based on their strength and skill but primarily these are not drastically long occurrences.
- The ability to manipulate sound in the sense of modify the loudness, pitch, and tone of sounds.
- User can become inaudible, being completely silent or allow themselves to only be heard by certain individuals or make their movements or things around them inaudible too. This takes constant concentration, how long it lasts is dependent on the user's focus and skill.
- Can temporarily cause a target to go mute. This takes constant concentration, how long it lasts is dependent on the user's focus and skill.
- Is unable to create sound, being limited to manipulating only from already existing sources.
- Distance, mass, precision, etc. depend upon of the knowledge, skill, and strength of the user.
In addition, some (but not all) archdemons are born with a secondary unique ability, one from the list below:
Secondary Abilities
Fatigue Immunity
Secondary Abilities
Fatigue Immunity
- The user's body is highly resistant to the build-up of fatigue toxins in their blood, allowing them to be physically active for considerably longer periods of time than the average being.
- They may still experience tiredness but much less so than any other.
- The user requires extremely little sleep, allowing them to go days, sometimes a few weeks without sleep. Sleep is only necessary dependent on the amount of exertion the user experiences, which needs to be far greater than any normal being.
- User can eat/digest any form of matter regardless of size or shapes without harming their stomach or mouth.
- They are capable of storing matter within their bodies and spitting it back out when the moment calls for it. However, if it has been consumed for too long it will be too late to spit back out.
- Cannot consume elemental magic.
- They may still be able to be harmed from the inside by use of other abilities and/or living beings.
- They are frequently hungry.
- The ability to use one's tongue to grasp and manipulate objects.
- User's tongue is elastic and able to grow longer or smaller at a fast rate.
- The user is able to erase themselves from the memory of a target.
- Cannot erase the memories of anything but themselves.
- Cannot alter memories, instead simply wipes out their existence. Target may have memories of events that took place with the user but without the presence of the user. Memory will be either blurry or wiped completely clean dependent on the user's skill and concentration.
- Certain strong emotions/events may trigger the return of lost memory, though this is exceptionally rare.
- Allows the user to "disappear" from the world or anyone knowing who they are.
- The user can sense when a target is lying.
- Requires speech, as it is initiated by vocals of the target.
- Cannot sense the reason for the lie.
- This ability can be subconsciously blocked when the user trusts the target, meaning they may not detect a lie from someone they do not suspect is lying or believe would lie. Their denial of a target to be a liar could inhibit their ability to sense a lie.
- Creans are immune to this detection.
- The user is able to hover in the air and glide at low levels.
- This ability is for a being who does not have wings.
- Can be difficult to stabilize at times.
- Cannot cause others or objects to levitate but only themselves.
